KTK62: TIMI ET SES TAHITIENS: AMOUR ET TAMOURE

Ladies & Gentlemen, we'll continue our trip into tahitian mid 60's Tamouré with another unusal record. The growing amount of tourists visiting the Polynesian Island was a great opportunity for local musicians to produce some records and today we'll get some great music featuring mixed influences with TIMI ET SES TAHITIENS: AMOUR ET TAMOURE (RCA Victor 430.113.S from the mid 60's).

Though i don't know much about the people behind this record, the music is pretty nice more "mellow" and "cheesy" than the last post it features some sweet vocals, ukulele, guitars, some great drums...

It seems like timi is pretty shy as the cover photo is from a stock image and also appear on an hawaian record. Anyway, for those who had hard time to learn to dance the Tamouré, the back cover displays all the movements you need to learn...

KTK61: MANUIA & MAEVA: OTUITUI TAHITI

Ladies & gentlemen, It seems like some of you hurt their back last week dancing with us on Tamouré. The survivors will have to meet our crew at the local airport as today we'll ear the sweet voices of  MANUIA & MAEVA: OTUITUI TAHITI (Reo Tahiti Records RT520 from the mid 60's).

The Lp we got today is "one of a kind" (well, I hope I'm wrong). Take 2 air hostesses from UTA, Tahitian ones off course and if possible sisters, get some keyboards, drums and guitars, mix all together and you'll get this refreshing record "OTUITUI TAHITI".

The tittle is the contraction of the name of 2 tahitian hit songs and that's all we'll get here, 12 songs composed by Yves Roche or Eddie Lund brilliantly turned into some 60's tahitian rock & roll with the sweet voices of the Maraeauia sisters that comes and go, together or on solos.

This record is for sure one of my favourite tahitian 60's lp  and I can remember the day I found it at a flea market, it came from an old man who was workingon a boat at this time and who was selling his memories for a few coins... Thanks to him!

KTK59: TAI ET SES TAHITIENS (TAMOURE)

Ladies & gentlemen, passengers on flight KTK59 for Tahiti, we are now arriving at the airport. Today it feels
just like on october 10th of last year, when we started our first musical trip!
We'll spend the next month discovering 60's local music and learn the "Tahitian twist" with some modernised "Tamouré".

A few months ago, we spent some time with Eddie Lund who was one of the first to promote Tahitian pop culture overseas (and Mr Lund is not really far from this record as he hides behind 3 of the songs we get today). This time, we'll follow the evolution in the mid 60's when tavelling to the Polynesian islands became easier for tourists. It sure helped music influences to travel on both ways, giving an occidental vibe to the local sound while Europe (and Usa) would start to dance along.

This week, we'll start our little trip with TAI ET SES TAHITIENS «TAMOURE» (Barclay 52579 from the mid 60's). This first ep will be soon followed by another one with nearly the same cover and an identical tittle (we'll get it next time).
Tai et ses tahitiens gives us a great opportunity to start to dance Tamouré, this ep is crazy fast and dancy, minimal setup, electric guitar, polynesian drums, tahitian (and some french) man vocals...

and stay tuned for the part 2 !

KTK58: POTCHAMAN PHIMCHAN
(TAM NAN RAK AMATA)

พจมาน พิมพ์จันทร์ / ตำนานรักอมตะ
Ladies & gentlemen,
Today we'll end our little trip around Thai 70's and early 80's luk thung, we'll sure come back to Thailand very soon!
Today, let's get back around Suphanburi, where it all started with a sweet tape from the 80's with TAM NAN RAK AMATA by POTCHAMAN PHIMCHAN (Saha Kuang Heng, early 80's).

If this time we had only women vocals +/- on the same mood with sweet vocals, this tape is quite different as it's more recent as it incorporates more synth.
Photchaman Phimchan was born and raised in the northern Nakhon Sawan province, in a farmers familly. After winning several singing contest she's been approched by some good songwritters and did some duets with some well known singers but she did not really seemed to want the fame and prefered a simple life.

Photchaman Phimchan focuced a large part of her work on covering songs such as on the tape we got today where she covers wonderfull song from the amazing diva Khwanchit Siprachan «nam ta sao dok kham tai» on track number 4 (sadly that's exactly the moment the tape choosed to have some minor troubles but the it's still really enjoyable).
Anyway, let's play that great music and thanks again to Peter and Thani for their precious help!

01. รักพี่ที่ใจ (rak phi thi chai)
02. สงสารสุโขทัย (songsan sukhothai)
12. ไหนว่าไม่ลืม (nai wa mai luem)

The passengers for Tahiti should get their
passports ready before next week...

KTK57: NAMOI PHUMSUK
(PLENG AMATA CHUT PHISET)

น้ำอ้อย พุ่มสุข / เพลงอมตะชุดพิเศษ
Ladies & gentlemen, sorry for the little delay, today we'll continue our trip in Thailand with some gorgeous music! If you enjoyed the last post, you'll sure love this one as it's really in the same mood!

Though she is not really famous and seemed to had a short career NAMOI PHUMSUK gives us a woderfull recording with PLENG AMATA CHUT PHISET (ROTA  RT-5177, late 70's).
Just like last week we'll get everything that makes 70's luk thung amazing: lots of musicians, a large «tropical» rythm section, influences from disco and funk, some instruments additions such as piano, flutes and strings and the delicious bitter sweet voice of Namoi Phumsuk.

Namoi Phumsuk was born in Nakhon Ratchasima, Isan. Though she was pretty sucessfull in singing contest it seems like some more ambitious rivals got she success she would have deserve. Her career doesn't seem to have been very long (I don't have a clue about how many records she released but i'd love to get some more for sure).

All I know is she stopped to sing a long time ago and that you should start to dance right after the firsts seconds of this little gem !!!
TRACKLIST:
01. สั่งดาว (sang dao)
