KTK79: LES BALLETS MARTINIQUAIS: BELLE MARTINIQUE NOUS A!

Ladies & gentlemen, today is mardi gras! What a great opportunity to celebreate with some French Caribbean carnival music...

This month, we'll enjoy various styles in the same "party" mood: a steal band, some late 70's biguine with various influences and today a big ensemble featuring 20 dancers and 10 musicians and singers with LES BALLETS MARTINIQUAIS: BELLE MARTINIQUE NOUS A! (Desse DDLX186 from 1980).

In the 60's and 70's Les Ballets Martiniquais have left their islands to travel the world and promote their culture all around, they been awarded many times for their show. This time they made a stop in Paris for an amazing studio recording that keep all their live energy. This record is an explosion of joy and happiness mixed with sunshine! An heavy rythm section, some subtle trumpets and clarinets... Some instrumental parts and also lots of vocalists singing in  delicious Kreyol a mix of songs from the folklore and some furious carnival hits at the end of this Lp...

Get some rhum, a lime or two, some cane sugar
and call some friends, it's party time!
See you next week.

KTK77: UNKNOWN CHINESE 80s LADY

Ladies & gentlemen, today we continue our little trip into chinese music, we'll focus on chinese pop music.
Though I don't really like the idea of posting a mysterious tape without any informations and without the cover, that's what we'll have today! I could not resist to post this one.

We'll, I'm pretty sure we'll sure know a little more about this 80's singer as the tape was part of a "best of" collection edited by the Sino/Thai label Gold Medal Soundtrack (the cover and the tape match but it's obviously not the good cover) so it seems obvious that she was well known. (feel free to send me some additionnal informations).
Today, we got 18 sweet and sour tracks mixing various styles, Chinese and latin influences from time to time and a wide range of instruments both modern and traditional...

Let's enjoy it and wait for more informations if they happen.
See you next week to continue our little trip.

KTK76: DRAGONS & LIONS DANCES

Ladies & gentlemen, you're captain is back from a long long trip!
I spent the last few weeks hunting for dragons and guess what? We'll get a chance to ear some of them today!

To celebrate the beginning of the Chinese year of the horse we're starting a new journey into Chinese music. Today, we'll start with a tape that will probably sound weird to many people: some live recordings during the street parades that happen for new year and other ceremonies: XING SHI: DA LUO DA GU XI QING YIN YUE (no band name) "lion dance: gong & drum festive music"(Golden Sound GS.1022 from the 80's). The propper name is not on the tape file as I got itafter the upload), .

Imagine the streets full of people, dragons, lions, musicians and dancers almost everywhere. Smashing heavy drums, exploding fireworks, loud symbals and traditional flutes combining to create an highly repetitive «brutal trance» music that follows the parade. That's the kind of amazing show you'll find in China and in the many places around the world where the Chinese community is well represented.
A surprising tape that will remind good memories to those who ever experienced such amazing moments and make others wonder why such noisy tape can even exist.

SIDE A
SIDE B

In the next few weeks, we'll have more music from China so if you know anybody who can help me to translate the covers it would be much appreciated.

KTK75: AUTOPILOT "HONGTHONG SING" (pt8)

Ladies & gentlemen, Just like last time when I been busy for a few weeks, we'll set the engines to "autopilot" so everybody can keep on dancing!

This time, we'll fly to Isan, the north-eastern part of Thailand to enjoy some great local music! I'm pretty sure that those who liked our last stay in Thailand will really enjoy this new journey into Thai popular music.

During the upcoming  weeks we'll get a big bunch of Luk Thung and Molam songs from the 70's and 80's packed in an MP3 CD full of goodness. Quite an unusual format for occidental people but it's getting really popular in South East Asia. I could not resist to post this one featuring some long time favourites such as Hongthong Dao'Udon, Angkhanang Khunchai, Sam Phalang Sao (as featured on the cover) and some more!
Enjoy...
